Adaptive Reuse Of An Empty Hospital Building Into A Community Hub

The Netherlands is facing a severe housing crisis, with many unused and empty buildings throughout the country. In an effort to address this issue, I have transformed an old abandoned hospital into a vibrant community hub. This building features a variety of amenities and units, including a communal area called The Hubbub on the ground floor, which serves as both a reception area and a hub for meetings and socializing. The ground floor also includes accessible units that are specially designed to be easily navigable for individuals using wheelchairs. The first floor boasts a small, fully accessible library and a compact gym with a range of equipment and a view of the pool. The Rachel Ruys wing offers rental rooms that can be used as art studios, while the Paul Verhoeven wing features two state-of-the-art screening rooms equipped with Samsung Onyx LED panels. In addition to Multi-General Units, which provide support to young families and alleviate the strain on the healthcare system, the building also offers single shared units and small units for students. The building also has a peaceful floor dedicated to meditation and reflection, as well as an expansive top floor that can be rented out for events or divided into smaller spaces to suit your needs. In total, the building has 92 apartment units that can house up to 368 people.
